Street performers at the Portobello Road market
Street performers at the Portobello road market: There are very few places I go to in the summer in London without seeing a vibrant group of street performers ranging from musicians to others entertaining the crowd for a few pounds. At the Portobello road market, I was amused by one who just played rock songs on his stereo as he mimed and played air guitar. He fooled no one, but raised a few hearty laughs and probably donations as well when his stereo stopped abruptly.
My favourite “street performer” or more specifically local character was an old man called Ron with his pet mongrel Betsy perched on his shoulders. They are a permanent fixture in the market and tend to be seen at the fruit and veg section.
I found myself taking a few minutes break from my six hour stroll on Portobello road by just taking in whatever the street performers had to dish out. Every now and again one or two of them will attract a sizeable number of folks around them and for those few minutes people got the opportunity to refresh themselves. Some as you can see below offered awesome photo opportunities to make fellow instagramers and snapchatters green with envy.
