Fruit and Veg at the Portobello Road Market, London
The fruit and veg section at Portobello road market is right after the antiques and bric-a-brac section as you go down hill. It is an iconic market with a history that dates back centuries. The best bit, I found about this section, are the bargains or drastic price reductions just before closing time. A pound or a “paand” as the local cockney stall holders would say will get you enough fruit to meet your daily dietary quota.
The freshly juiced fruit sellers are also nearby, mostly in the food section, if you fancy your juices mixed or in a container. Not all the fruits are local. Some are too exotic to have been birthed in England. Even though Portobello road is mostly frequented by tourists especially on Saturdays, the fruit and veg section is one of the few that serves the locals.
