Sobolo 0 5 0

Sobolo is many things to many people. For some it is the drink that starves off prostate cancer and comes packed with anti-oxidants. For others, sobolo is simply a tasty and flavourful African drink that is often served at functions and events.

100g dried sorrel

10 cups of water

1 to 2 cups sugar

4-8 cloves (optional)

2 grated medium sized fresh ginger (optional)

1 cup of lemon juice or another juice as flavour (optional)

1Wash or rinse the sorrel for a few seconds

2Add, the cloves, grated ginger and lemon juice to the sorrel when the water begins to boil and remove pot from heat

3Allow the sorrel to soak in the water for 10-15 minutes to extract the juices

4Pour the contents of the pot onto a paper towel into another container to sieve the water from the sorrel

5Add ice, sugar to taste and serve chilled

Some recipes call for soaking or steeping the sorrel for as many as 3-5 hours
The strength of the sorrel can be varied with the amount of water added
