New beginnings with Strawberry, Macadamia and Carob Powder
Today feels like new beginnings in good ole’ London, my city of abode! Spring is knocking on the door and the weather forecasters announced this morning that it will be warmer in London than in Marrakesh in the next couple of days! Three things spring to mind! Strawberries, strawberries and strawberries. In whatever form I have it, it doesn’t matter but spring as is traditional in England would have to be welcomed with strawberries if only to wave goobye to Winter – the season of recovery and preparation as Paul Theroux once said.
If I were in, Cape Town and Stellenbosch, South Africa, I’d get myself into one of those bursting strawberry farms open to the public where you go equipped with baskets and boxes to pluck your own strawberries. I am not, so all dreams about connecting to the soil would have to give way. I will have to make do with mysteriously sourced strawberries from my local fruit and veg store.
Two ideas come to mind.
Traditional strawberry and double cream with macadamia nuts and
A strawberry + Blood Orange with Carob Powder juice.

Pairing strawberry with orange is exciting but it is even more exciting when that orange is blood orange, a type of orange that has developed its red colour from anthocyanin, an antioxidant. Unlike chocolate, carob powder is naturally sweet, low in fat, contains calcium, and is devoid of caffeine.
