Lone Bicycle Photo Essay: Broadway Market in Hackney
Series number 3 of the Lone Bicycle photo essay takes us to the Broadway Market in Hackney, East London. I have lunch on this street at least once a month as I only work a stone’s throw away. In fact those lunches are monthly meetings with my team. We have a system in place that revolves around a team member choosing a restaurant on every occasion. Bella Vista, an Italian restaurant, has managed to always get my vote each time, but I really need to cast my net wider next time it is my turn to choose.
Perhaps the most famous graffiti ever found on this Broadway read “Broadway Market is not a Sinking Ship, it’s a Submarine” That quote epitomizes the recent history of this relatively small street. Not too long ago it was by all standards a ghetto with all the associated issues that deprived areas conjure up. It is now a hub for some of the most frequented pubs, restaurants, shops, florists etc.
In this series 10 photos of lone bicycles were taken over a two day period.
