Deep in thought over Oprah Winfrey’s happiest moment

oprah-daughters-As I put together the sequence of photos (all shot on my travels and gallivanting) below of people deep in thought, one thing became immediately apparent. Exactly what does deep thought accomplish? Then I came across this quote:

The deeper thought is, the taller it becomes

Today a video of graduates from Oprah Winfrey’s South African academy for girls brought home the idea of deep thought and it’s potential to change lives. That thought in this instance, is one woman’s (Oprah Winfrey) contemplation on setting up a school to give opportunities to girls who would never have been on the road they are on. As one of them readily admitted, the academy “changed the trajectory of my life.”

Asked what her happiest moment has been so far, Oprah stated emphatically that their success cannot top any other moment in her life. This is powerful coming from one of the world’s wealthiest and most successful business women. She added “I want you to live the fullest, truest height of expression of yourselves. You are going to fall. The very nature of moving through life is at some point you’re going to stumble, but when you stumble it just means oops, detour. Got to move in another direction.” “Your success, however you choose to define that, is my reward, and your fulfillment as a human being. I started out doing this as a gift to Nelson Mandela, as a gift to the country of South Africa, as a gift to each one of you. And it turned out to be the greatest gift I could have given myself.”

So today, as you get on with your busy life and schedule, don’t forget where deep thoughts and contemplation could get you. Melancholy and sadness may be the source of the various expressions of being deep in thought. But who says even sad thoughts could not be gotten over, changed and transformed into ingenious thoughts that change lives? Like Oprah, you may actually end up finding your greatest moments of happiness and gifts from the outcome of those deep thoughts. As one of the greats rightly put it:

“The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.” ― Albert Einstein
